Christine McBennett, MSW, LSW, is the new social worker dedicated to supporting patients at the William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center, which is housed at The Eye Institute (TEI).
McBennett, who began her role on Sept. 30, 2024, brings valuable experience from her tenure at Wills Eye Hospital. She succeeds Marcy Graboyes, LSW, MSW, ACSW, who retired after an incredible 42-year career.
In her new position, McBennett works with patients to help them navigate their vision loss journey by focusing on maximizing their functional vision, which allows them to maintain independence and reach their personal goals. She has described the transition to this role as seamless, sharing that the key difference in her work is shifting from eye care goals to supporting patients in their functional vision goals.
“There is no medical intervention here. The intervention is maximizing the patients’ functional vision,” said McBennett. “Helping people with the next step along their vision loss journey has been very rewarding.”
She is committed to making the process as smooth as possible for patients, ensuring they have access to the resources they need.
“I want to help the doctors and the students tap into all the resources that are available to their patients and make it as easy as possible for patients to reach their individual goals as far as maximizing their independence,” said McBennett.
Her passion for helping others and her dedication to patients make her a valuable addition to the team as she continues her work to improve lives at the Feinbloom Center.
