Ways the Speech-Language Institute Supports the Community

In line with the Speech-Language Institute's (SLI) mission to support the community it serves, clinical staff, speech-language pathologists, and Master of Science students in the Salus at Drexel University Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) program regularly participate in community events.

SLI events tableMembers of the SLI team set up resource tables to share information about the free services the SLI provides.

Community events are a great way for the program’s SLP students to gain experience interacting with members of the community they serve. Student attendance at these community events also fulfills the program’s community service requirement.

Among the events are:

ROSA event at Temple

The Aphasia Resource Collaboration Hub (ARCH) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting advocacy, education, and an exchange of information among people with aphasia, researchers, clinicians, and student clinicians. Each year, the Resource Orientation Event for Aphasia event is hosted at Temple University, welcoming all people interested in or connected to stroke and aphasia.

Philadelphia Walk for Apraxia

Walk for ApraxiaThe Philadelphia Chapter Walk for Apraxia is organized by SLI clinical educator, Patricia Mayro, MA, CCC-SLP. At the Walk for Apraxia, a team gathers to celebrate the achievements of the clinical site’s Apraxia Stars, and to raise funds to support the programs that help these Stars shine. The event helps sustain educational opportunities, awareness, provide financial aid, support for research, and much more. By joining the walk, participants strengthen the apraxia community, making it tighter, more resilient, and ready for the road ahead.

Halloween Party at We Rock the Spectrum
