Resident’s Day has become an annual event in which The Eye Institute’s (TEI) residents gather for two days of Continuing Education. Both on-campus and off-campus residents presented interesting clinical cases in a grand rounds format to Salus University’s Pennsylvania College of Optometry faculty, supervisors, and fellow residents. A cocktail reception followed the presentations, which brought everyone together to celebrate the resident’s achievements.
During the event, the Bernard Blaustein Resident Excellence Award was bestowed to Dr. Samantha Myers, a cornea and contact lens resident at TEI. The award, instituted in 2017, recognizes a distinguished optometric resident from each residency class who has shown exceptional clinical promise and aptitude during their residency year.
The idea for Resident’s Day originally came from Drs. Shital Mani, director of the Off-Campus
Residency Program, and Michael Rebar, former director of On-Campus Residency Programs. They hoped to build a sense of camaraderie by allowing the residents to share their unique clinical experiences and learn from one another.
“This year’s residency group has been fantastic; the caliber of lectures that they presented within the last two days was just outstanding,” Dr. Mani said.
As one of the largest Optometry residency programs in the country, the on-campus residencies at TEI include: Primary Eye Care, Pediatric Optometry/Vision Therapy, Low Vision Rehabilitation, Cornea and Contact Lenses, and Neuro-Ophthalmic Disease whereas the affiliated residency programs offer clinical education and training in Ocular Disease and/or Primary Care in various practice modalities.
