Do You Hear What I Hear?

Do you hear what I hear graphic?

Imagine hearing a constant ringing, buzzing, hissing in your ear when no sound is actually present in the surrounding environment. This is what individuals who suffer from tinnitus experience, and according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, more than 50 million Americans experience some form of tinnitus.

Tinnitus is not a disease, but rather a symptom indicating changes have occurred in your hearing. The causes of tinnitus can vary but many common factors include exposure to loud sounds, hearing loss (age-related or hereditary), illness, certain medications or head injuries.

While there is no cure for tinnitus, there are management strategies available. The Pennsylvania Ear Institute (PEI) of Salus University offers a variety of tinnitus evaluation and management services. Our tinnitus expert will create a customized treatment plan to fit a patient’s needs.

On Saturday, May 19, PEI will host an Open House and Tinnitus Information Session where Dr. Rebecca Blaha will give an overview of tinnitus and available management options as well as answer any questions. In addition, there will be complimentary hearing screenings and technology demonstrations. This free session is open to the public. Light refreshments will also be served.
