The purchase of hearing aids is a significant investment. Before making your purchase, it’s important to follow these key steps in order ensure the right decision is made.
- Scheduling a Hearing Evaluation: Before making a purchase, you must see an audiologist for a comprehensive hearing evaluation. At the Pennsylvania Ear Institute (PEI) of Salus University, our audiologists have extensive training in the areas of hearing and balance evaluations. An evaluation can determine if your hearing loss was caused by a medically treatable issue or if hearing aids are the appropriate course of treatment.
- Making the Decision: After your hearing loss has been diagnosed, and the decision to buy hearing aids has been made, the devices can be purchased directly from your audiologist. This will ensure you are purchasing a high quality product that is suitable for the type and severity of your hearing loss.
- Selecting a Style: One of the most crucial steps in the process is deciding what style of hearing aid to choose and which one would best fit your overall lifestyle. Your audiologist will recommend a certain style based on the severity of your hearing loss, dexterity, visual abilities, and any cosmetic concerns you may have. You can work together to find a style that is right for you and that also meets your acoustic needs.
- Using Technology: Once a hearing aid style has been selected, you can continue to work with your audiologist to decide what level of technology works best for your lifestyle. For example, instead of using two different channels to separate sound, advanced technology can instead allow for eight or more channels. That’s why it’s important to discuss your listening goals and what you hope to achieve with your hearing aids with your audiologist. Remember to be realistic with your goals, as this will greatly impact the success you have with your device.
- Adding Features: Lastly, you can opt to have additional features added to your hearing aids depending on your specific needs. Some examples include the option for rechargeable batteries or Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids which allow you to connect to your other devices.
PEI is offering a special promotion for those interested in purchasing hearing aids. From now until the end of December, you can receive $250 off a pair of hearing aids. Patients who come in for a hearing evaluation before November 23 will also be able to receive their devices in time for the holiday season.
