Tips on “Healthy Aging through Healthy Hearing” Presented at Second TEI Community Class

Dr. Baha giving a presentationOn May 18, Dr. Rebecca Blaha, audiologist at the Pennsylvania Ear Institute conducted the second of three spring community classes hosted at The Eye Institute (TEI) of Salus University’s main facility in Oak Lane. She discussed hearing loss and its impact on the overall health of individuals.

Dr. Blaha explained untreated hearing loss can have an effect on cognition, mental health in addition to other health issues. She also reviewed the various causes and symptoms of hearing loss for the group and provided an overview of several treatment options.

The next class will be held on Thursday, June 8 at 10 a.m. The Speech-Language Institute’s director, Mr. Robert Serianni, CCC-SLP, will present “Speech, Language and Cognitive Issues in an Aging Population.” He will review possible changes in speech, language, cognition and swallowing in mature adults. He will also discuss the importance of early detection and intervention, and how a speech-language pathologist can assist those experiencing these changes.
