On Wednesday, January 18, 2017, Dr. Lindsay Bondurant, director of the Pennsylvania Ear Institute, kicked off the first of four educational lunch and learn events Salus University is conducting at the Ambler Area YMCA. She spoke to local residents about the importance of treating hearing loss and its effects on cognition, mental health and other health issues. She also explained the causes and symptoms of hearing loss and provided an overview of various treatment options.
Dr. Bondurant hopes attendees understand hearing loss is a quality of life issue and when properly addressed can restore one’s connection to the world.
“When people have difficulty understanding what others are saying, they aren’t able to participate in life as fully as they’d like to,” she said. “We want people to understand that there are a variety of treatment options for hearing loss, and the first step to understanding those options is to see a qualified audiologist for an evaluation. Addressing hearing loss sooner rather than later allows people to live a more active and fulfilling life, which promotes healthy aging.”
