Recently, Dr. Lindsay Bondurant, director of the Pennsylvania Ear Institute (PEI) of Salus University, spoke about the critical role of hearing in the classroom to the Montgomery County School Nurses Association.
Her presentation entitled, “From Hear to Eternity: The Role of Listening and the Spoken Language in the Classroom,” emphasized the importance of early identification of hearing loss in children and how school nurses play a role in that process. Dr. Bondurant explained that it can be difficult to detect hearing loss by simply observing children as many are very good at compensating for their hearing loss. Sometimes, hearing loss can be confused with other issues such as inattention, difficulty learning or selective listening, but a comprehensive hearing exam can properly identify any hearing issues.
PEI offers comprehensive hearing exams for children and adults of all ages. If you believe your child may have difficultly hearing, contact PEI for an appointment today.
