Anne Marie Ruckdeschel joins the Speech-Language Institute (SLI) of Salus University as a clinical educator. She is a certified speech-language pathologist, specializing in adult disorders of language and cognition.
In addition to her work at SLI, Ruckdeschel is currently a speech-language pathologist for Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital where she treats patients with swallowing, language, voice and cognitive-communication disorders. Her previous experience includes working as a speech-language pathologist for Genesis Rehabilitation Services and Nyman Associates.
Ruckdeschel holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Communications from Chestnut Hill College and a master’s degree in speech-language-hearing science from Temple University.
She was inspired to become a speech-language pathologist after watching her godson thrive under a clinician’s care.
“My godson was getting speech services and it changed his whole world,” she said. “Watching him develop his speech and language skills got me interested in pursuing a career in this field.”
Ruckdeschel enjoys the ever-evolving nature of speech-language pathology. Most recently, her attention has been on the developing area of treatment for post-concussive syndrome.
“The field of speech-language pathology is very dynamic, and there’s always a need to stay on top of the latest techniques and research findings,” she said. “For the past year or so I’ve been focused on concussions and post-concussive syndrome. It’s one of those diagnoses that’s not well understood in mainstream life. The knowledge and awareness of it is growing exponentially.”
SLI’s focus on educating future clinicians, while providing high-quality care to the community was attractive to Ruckdeschel.
“I love working with students,” she said. “They’re on a journey that I’ve already begun. There are so many opportunities for them to take advantage of as they’re growing their skills, and I’m happy to be a part of their journey.”
