Dr. Bhawan Minhas named Director of On-Campus Residency Programs

Dr. MinhasDr. Maria Parisi, associate dean for Optometric Clinical Affairs at Salus University Pennsylvania College of Optometry, announced that Dr. Bhawan Minhas has accepted the position as director of On-Campus Residency Programs, effective July 1.  Dr. Minhas received her undergraduate degree from the University of Calgary in Biological Sciences with a minor in Primatology. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2013, and completed a primary care residency at The Eye Institute (TEI) the following year. Following her residency, Dr. Minhas joined the University as a clinical faculty member at TEI, and also assumed the role of director of EHR Training.  A Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry since 2015, Dr. Minhas currently supervises students during patient care and works closely with each resident as a mentor.

In her new role, Dr. Minhas will be responsible for the overall quality and implementation of the on-campus residency programs at TEI. She will oversee the development, implementation, and outcomes of the on-campus residency program curricula, and will participate in the recruitment of residency candidates for all on-campus programs. Additionally, she will chair the selection committee for all primary care residents.

Dr. Michael Rebar has chosen to step down as the director of the On-Campus Residency Program, but will continue in his role as Co-Chief of Suite 3 at The Eye Institute. He will remain involved in the residency program as residency coordinator of Primary Care. In her internal announcement, Dr. Parisi thanked Dr. Rebar for his past efforts, and noted that he left the program “well organized and thriving”.
