The Eye Institute of Salus University recently received a $30,000 grant provided through the generosity of the Albert B. Millett Memorial Fund, administered by BNY Mellon Wealth Management. The grant, won through the work of Sarah Appel, OD and Marcy Graboyes, MS, will be used to support the Feinbloom Center’s community-based low vision mobile clinic.
The mobile clinic provides interdisciplinary low vision assessments for children with visual impairments in their educational settings throughout the Delaware Valley. Area schools participating in this service include Overbrook School for the Blind, Delaware County Intermediate Unit, Overbrook Education Center and the St. Lucy Day School for Children with Visual Impairments, among others.
The William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center, located in The Eye Institute, provides low vision rehabilitative services to patients of all ages who have experienced vision loss. The Feinbloom Center’s staff is comprised of optometrists, social workers, certified low vision specialists, orientation and mobility specialists, and occupational therapists. The interdisciplinary team develops low vision strategies that help patients with visual impairments to successfully achieve rehabilitation goals relating to school, work, activities of daily living and leisure activities.
According to Dr. Michael H. Mittelman, Salus president, this grant will “help us offer the highest standard of care and rehabilitation to children with visual impairments.”
