Speech-Language Institute Receives Eagles Autism Foundation Grant

The Speech-Language Institute (SLI) at Salus University was recently awarded a $15,500 grant from the Eagles Autism Foundation in support of their work with clients who have autism. 

The grant will support the purchase of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices for clients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and will be used during therapy sessions for clients and caregiver training. In addition, the SLI will be able to lend AAC devices to clients who need them. The funding provided by this grant will support the SLI’s mission to provide access to communication for clients with ASD.

“The SLI at Salus University is incredibly grateful to be recipients of the Eagles Autism Foundation Grant. The funds we receive from this grant will allow us to have an even broader reach in supporting our clients and their families who are impacted by autism, and will support our mission in ensuring all individuals have a voice,” said Kara Maharay, MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, SLI director.

Since launching the Eagles Autism Challenge in 2018, the Eagles Autism Foundation has raised more than $20 million and funded 83 research projects and community grants.

As recipients of the grant funding, both Maharay and Robert W. Serianni, MS, CCC-SLP, FNAP, Salus University’s Speech-Language Pathology program director, attended the annual Eagles Autism Challenge Kickoff Party signature charity event May 19 at Lincoln Financial Field where more than 4,500 people were in attendance to take action for autism and make change happen.
