The Eye Institute (TEI) of Salus University recently named Dr. Luis Trujillo as the main provider of their Norristown satellite. The clinical facility, which serves as TEI’s fourth location, also recently marked its one-year anniversary.
The Norristown satellite was established in partnership with Delaware Valley Community Health, Inc. (DVCH) with the goal of providing quality vision care to patients in the surrounding community. Located inside DVCH’s Norristown Regional Health Center, TEI’s Norristown facility offers primary eye care for both children and adults.
According to DVCH, its Norristown location serves a large Hispanic population and many people are in need of vital healthcare services including vision.
In his new role, Dr. Trujillo hopes to give back to the surrounding community.
“There are a lot of uninsured and underinsured people in the community - many of whom have systemic issues that could potentially affect their vision,” Dr. Trujillo said. “Helping the community was the goal from the beginning and I’m happy to continue what was already started.”
Dr. Trujillo will also oversee students from Salus University’s Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) assigned to their clinical rotations at the Norristown location.
“It’s important for students to recognize that even if you don’t fully understand the language, you can still conduct a comprehensive eye exam and provide great care,” he said.
Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Trujillo hopes his experience will allow him to connect with patients in order to provide the best possible care.
“Being bilingual helps me to communicate effectively with the patients,” Dr. Trujillo said. “I’m Hispanic as well so to be in a position where I can reach out and give back makes it really rewarding.”
