SLP student working with clientFaculty and students at SLI use a variety of formal and informal assessments to gather data on the strengths and challenges of the client’s communication and/or swallowing status. A battery of standardized protocols is developed based on the individual’s presenting needs. Technology and informal measures may also be employed to further develop the client’s plan of care.

Assessments may be completed in one session or over several sessions and may take up to three 3 hours in total. An estimated length of time may be provided after the initial consultation.

Referrals to other professionals may be indicated following an assessment and may include:

  • Audiology
  • Optometry and Vision Specialties
  • Medical Specialties (neurology, otolaryngology, developmental pediatrics)
  • Occupational and/or Physical Therapy
  • Psychology/Psychiatry
  • Nutrition
